Maryland requires an HQL to purchase a handgun. You must complete a certified firearms safety course, submit fingerprints, and pass a background check. Gunslinger's Guns offers HQL training for $115.
To carry a concealed handgun, you must apply for a Wear & Carry Permit through the Maryland State Police. Training is required. We offer MD Wear & Carry training as part of our multi-state class ($235).
In Maryland, handguns and receivers are considered "regulated" items. Transfers require a 7-day waiting period and a $10 MSP fee. Long guns (rifles and shotguns) are generally not regulated.
Maryland law requires all handgun transfers — including private sales — to go through a licensed FFL dealer or the MSP as a secondary sale. Selling a handgun without going through the process is illegal in Maryland.
Maryland law requires firearms to be stored safely, especially in homes with minors. Trigger locks, gun safes, and lockboxes are recommended.
Our multi-state class covers three permits, giving you concealed carry reciprocity in many states across the country.
Home state — MD Wear & Carry Permit
FL Concealed Weapon License — broad reciprocity
UT Concealed Firearm Permit — broad reciprocity
We're happy to walk you through Maryland's requirements and help you get properly permitted.
